Price Means Something

Although price isn’t always the best indicator of quality, oftentimes, in the department of storage containers, you really do get what you pay for.  You may be able to find a storage container for a couple hundred bucks, but it is almost sure to have major structural problems such as rust, cracks, missing doors, etc.  Although it is more money up front to purchase a quality container, it is a good investment—as some of the goods you will store are sure to be irreplaceable. 

Check the Markings

Just as vehicles have VIN (Vehicle Identification Numbers), storage containers have the date they were made stamped on them so that both dealers and buyers can tell their exact age.  Look for these, or ask your dealer about them, so that you can be sure to get what you think you are paying for.

Make Space

In order to make room for delivery, set-up, and usability, there needs to be additional space around the unit.  If you are going to use a standard 20’ storage container, you will need at least 75’ of clearance.  If you will be using the larger 40’ storage containers, you will need at least 100’ of clearance.  When in doubt, as your storage container dealer or vendor to help make sure your site is acceptable.

Be Safe

Make sure to secure your storage container site before the scheduled delivery date, as most delivery services will not deliver a container to an area that seems dangerous or unsafe. That means keeping the facilities tidy, making sure all roads are passable and enforcing safety regulations.
