Features of Green Modular Buildings

There are almost as many green features that can be used in modular building construction as with traditional building construction. Some of those features are:

  • White roofing that reflects solar heat, reducing cooling needs on the building
  • Sky lights and large, well-placed windows to optimize natural lighting
  • High efficiency electrical appliances, lighting, and heating and cooling equipment
  • Energy efficient windows and doors
  • Eco-friendly flooring and other building materials, including recycled steel, bamboo flooring, and recycled-content carpet tiles and countertops
  • Even “rubber” sidewalks that are made from recycled tires

Other Features. There are more green benefits that modular building has over conventional building construction. Modular buildings are constructed much quicker than traditionally built buildings. This cuts on-site construction time by up to two-thirds, which results in less site pollution, less need for fuel to drive to and from the site repeatedly, and less ground disturbance that causes vegetation displacement and water run-off. Another non-direct benefit of green modular buildings is that since they are built in a factory, the amount of waste is reduced since manufacturers can more easily allow for recycling of materials. The efficiency of assembly-line manufacturing method also reduces waste.
